Relationships are complex, bringing us both joy and pain, requiring flexibility and compromise. Each couple goes through their own unique struggles. Perhaps it is a period of conflict, communication problems, breach of trust, built up anger, resentment, sexual difficulty, or emotional disconnection.
Couples are made up of two very unique individuals, coming from different families-of-origin, belief systems, and bringing different ideas and perspectives into the relationship. Each individual person has his or her own process (conscious and unconscious) and affects the relationship as a whole. Couples can find great healing in examining these differences within the therapeutic relationship and spending time getting to know one another in a deeper and more meaningful way.
In my work with couples I utilize a few different approaches which include family-of-origin work, depth psychology, conflict management, and the principles of non-violent communication.
There are many different configurations that make a couple. My therapy service includes marriage counseling, pre-marital counseling, gay affirmative couples counseling, and relationship counseling for those in un-married romantic partnerships. I encourage you to call and talk to me about exploring you and your spouse or partners’ own unique needs.
