Special Message to Teens | Special Message to Parents
Adolescence can be a particularly challenging time for families and many teens can benefit from having a safe and confidential place to share thoughts and feelings or to work through specific problems. Some of the common issues teens struggle with are:
- Depression - Crying a lot, irritability, anger, sadness
- Self-Esteem - Feelings of low self-worth or struggles with body-image
- Peer Relationships - Struggling to make friends, socially isolated, or dangerous peer pressure
- Eating Disorder Issues - Not eating, vomiting after eating, using diet pills, or over-exercising
- Drug and Alcohol Issues - Using and abusing illegal substances or engaging in under-age drinking
- Academic Problems - Struggling with the demands of school or pressure preparing for college
- Family Relationships - Trouble getting along with parents, step-parents, siblings, or grandparents.
- Gender Identity - Wondering who they are and who they want to be
- Sexuality - Struggling with pressure to become sexually active
- Self-Injurious Behaviors - Cutting or harming their bodies as a way to cope with difficult emotions
There are many confusing changes and identity struggles in the teen years that affect the whole household. Parents are pulled in so many different directions and even the closest of families may experience turbulence during adolescence. As children grow they are in a constant state of change. This requires flexibility and adjustment in the family structure.
I offer therapeutic services to address any of these issues and am specially trained in both adolescent and family counseling. In working with adolescents, experiential techniques are often used including journaling, art, and music. Sessions are offered in a variety of formats including:
- Individual Adolescent Counseling
- Family Counseling
- Sibling Counseling
- Parenting Consultations
Call or email me so we can discuss my services and how I might be of help to your teen and family.
